The Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu held its first Holoku Ball nearly eight decades ago. It was chaired by renowned composer Mrs. Bina Mossman. Originally intended to showcase the beauty and style of the uniquely Hawaiian holoku in an elegant social setting, the Ball soon provided a wonderful opportunity for scholarship fundraising. As part of the Holoku Ball, HCCH honors individuals and/or organizations who are supportive of the Hawaiian community in promoting cultural events, music, art and dance. |

As part of the month-long Prince Kuhio Celebration, the Native Hawaiian Health Festival / Ho`ike`ike will be a full day of events featuring health organizations, speakers, cultural demonstrations and entertainment. It will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2009, from 9 am to 5 pm on the Great Lawn at Bishop Museum. Come and participate in health screenings, listen to speakers on health issues, and learn about traditional Hawaiian cultural practices, including lomi lomi massage, and Hawaiian foods. The event is free and open to all. |

As part of the month-long celebration of Prince Kuhio, the annual Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanian`ole Commemorative Parade will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009 through Waikiki. The parade begins at 4 pm, and travels along Kalakaua Avenue from Saratoga Road to Kapi`olani Park. There will be four parade announcer stations with narratives about each unit. Ho`okupu (gifts) will be presented to the Prince Kuhio statue by each unit. A free Moonlight Concert will follow at Kapi`olani Park. Come join the fun! |

Vendors are from Mainland U.S., Outer Islands and Oahu with everything from Aloha shirts, estate jewelry, dolls, furniture, asian antiques, fine glassware, Hawaiiana, coins, stamps, kitchenware, surf items and more! The two annual Wiki Wiki shows are in Spring and October. They're a 91 table show with no presales to the vendors until early entry at 9 am. |

During the first week of May each year, large amounts of dolphins gather in Indonesian waters, swimming in a gigantic wheel or spiral pattern. No one knows exactly why this happens. In Hawaii, a similar thing happens with spinner dolphins. Join Hawaiian marine biologists this spring as they venture out to research this strange phenomenon. On May 6th, we will be combing dolphin encounters with an early morning (before dawn) meteor shower.
